Common problem
Air Conditioner Frozen in Enfield
Ice on an air conditioner looks strange on a 38-degree Enfield afternoon, but it is one of the most common faults we get called to. A frozen unit is a system starving for airflow or refrigerant.
Running it that way risks a dead compressor. Switch it off and read on.
We are Enfield Air Conditioning, a family-owned local team, and we fix frozen units across Enfield and the inner north. Every job is quoted under Fixed Upfront Pricing before we start, so you know the cost before anyone lifts a tool.
Why Your Split System Freezes
Ice forms on the indoor coil when the coil gets colder than it should, or when warm air stops moving across it. The usual sequence is a dirty filter, then a dusty coil, then ice spreading back along the refrigerant pipe.

Aircon Checks You Can Do Safely
Three checks take five minutes and rule out the cheap causes before you pay for a call-out.
Switch it off at the wall
Check the filter
Look at the outdoor unit
If the unit ices up again after a clean filter and a thaw, stop there. Anything past the filter involves refrigerant, and refrigerant work legally requires a licensed technician.

When to Call for Cooling Repairs
Call us when the ice returns after a thaw, when the coil ices within an hour of switching on, or when water starts dripping down the wall as the frost melts. Meltwater has a habit of finding plaster and wiring.
Ring (08) 8246 6283 and we will respond under our Within-the-Hour Response where availability allows, with 24/7 emergency cover for breakdowns during a heatwave run.
How We Thaw and Fix the Fault
We do not guess at a frozen coil. The diagnosis is systematic, because three different faults look identical from the lounge room.
Airflow test
Refrigerant check
Fan and sensor check
Every fix is quoted before work starts, and the work is carried out under ARC Licence L162586, the full refrigeration and air conditioning licence. If the fault turns out to be workmanship from an earlier install, our Lifetime Labour Warranty covers the return visit at no cost.
Questions
Frozen Aircon FAQs
Can I just let the ice melt and keep running the unit?
You can let it thaw, but if the ice came back once it will come back again, because something is restricting airflow or refrigerant. We find the actual cause rather than resetting the symptom.
How long does it take to thaw a frozen air conditioner?
Several hours with the system switched off and the fan running, sometimes overnight for a heavily iced coil. Running the compressor against a frozen coil risks damage, so switch the cooling off first.
Is a frozen unit an emergency?
It becomes one when you have no cooling through a heatwave or water starts dripping onto plaster or wiring. We run 24/7 emergency availability, so ring us and we will respond where availability allows.
Does a frozen coil mean I need a new system?
Usually not. Most ice-ups trace back to a choked filter, a blocked coil or low refrigerant, all repairable. We test the system properly before recommending anything, and we tell you honestly when repair will do.
Stop the Ice Before It Costs You
A frozen air conditioner never fixes itself, and every hour it runs iced is an hour of strain on the compressor.
Ring (08) 8246 6283 now and tell us what you are seeing. We will book a visit with a fixed price quote, same day where the schedule allows, and new customers can ask about $50 off first service when they call.
